SHADOW reached its goal of $50k and still have 37 days to go.
SHADOW: An impassioned plea from the creator
Maybe it’s me, but the spiritual mystery, awe, and fascination pervading the marketing for this product screams scam. Needless to say, the following email did not help:
Zendure battery copied on Indiegogo
If you took a look at some of the new campaigns on Indiegogo recently, you might have noticed a familiar project:
We’ve talked about Zendure before, but these aren’t the same guys.
SHADOW – An alarm clock with dreams of grandeur
SHADOW – it’s dark, formless, and a lot less interesting when you shine some light on it.
Tangeez – Tangible Lights
Who doesn’t like LEDs and LEGO bricks? Tangeez offers a little of both with stackable blocks that change colors as you stack them. Better still, they’re made from recyclable plastic.
But what about the batteries?
LockedUSB RESPONSE
Got a few comments on the LockedUSB post from a few days ago from the project’s creator. Had a little back and forth, and decided to republish it here.
ZENDURE crush proof batteries RESPONSE
Got an email from Zendure regarding our coverage of their project. Bryan their CEO has clarified some of our concerns.
MyəLock biometric eye scanner
As computers continue to manage more and more of our private information, keeping that information secure is becoming more and more important. The most recent iPhone has a fingerprint biometrics scanner, and this Kickstarter campaign is promoting an eyeball scanner that purports to keep your information secure. But is it really secure?
LockedUSB adapter acts as “firewall”, may start actual fires
I’m a really big fan of this one. A few months ago, a bunch of news outlets reported on the potential for hackers to to install malicious hardware on public USB charging stations. The idea is that while you think your phone is just charging, malicious hardware could be potentially accessing sensitive information on your phone made available over a USB connection. LockedUSB has found a way to mitigate that problem by constructing an adapter that simply removes the data pins from the USB line and only passes the power pins through.
But it gets better.
ZENDURE crush proof batteries
There are already a large number of portable backup batteries for electronic devices on the market today. A quick Amazon search for “portable backup battery” returns a plethora of results for under the $39 asking price of the smallest Zendure such as the Anker Astro E3 which claims a 10,000mAh capacity. So what exactly sets the Zendure line apart? There’s a ton of marketing hooplah in their video about the excellent visual appeal of the product, but when you boil it down, they’re claiming two things: higher efficiency/capacity than competitors and more durability than competitors.
